Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Volleyball team played one of their best matches of the 2016 season on Friday afternoon when they hosted Glendale College. The Owls were firing on all cylinders, posting a season high 46 kills (in a three set match), and also posted a season low of 10 attack errors in a sweep of the visiting Vaqueros.

The Owls committed their most errors in the first set (five), but ironically it was the set that the Owls controlled the most. With the match tied at 5-5, Glendale would take a brief 6-5 lead, but Citrus rattled off six straight points, thanks to three straight kills by freshman Briana Voght and two more by freshman Leah Price to surge out to an 11-6 lead. The Owls never looked back and went on to win 25-15.

In the second set, the match would once again stay close, being tied at 5-5. Instead of Glendale scoring the next point, the Owls started their run a point early scoring the next five points off two kills by Price, two kills by Voght, and an ace by freshman Amanda Belzl. Glendale would never get any closer as the Owls cruised to a 25-17 victory.

The last set of the night would see Citrus, score the first four points of the set, via an error by Glendale, an ace by freshman setter Patrisha Sangalang, a kill be sophomore Paige Madkin, and a Belzl kill. The Vaqueros didn't go away quietly rallying twice. On the first rally, Glendale tied the match up at 11-11, before Citrus scored five unanswered. On the second go around, Glendale would get to within one at 15-16, and Citrus' lead would fluctuate between 1-3 points. Leading 23-20, Citrus finally put the game away on back-to-back Madkin kills to finish the sweep.

In the win, Voght pounded home a math high 13 kills, while Madkin had 11 and a match high 17 digs. Price posted a double-double of her own with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Belzl pitched in with eight kills, four blocks, and four aces.

With the win, Citrus improves to 5-18 overall and 3-3 in WSC East play. The Owls will close out their home schedule on Wednesday when they play host to State #2 Los Angeles Pierce College at 6:00 PM.
