Citrus Wins Two at Eagle Invitational

Citrus College closed out a busy week on a high note, grabbing two wins Saturday at the LA Mission Eagle Invitational. The Owls battled from behind to defeat Glendale College in five (15-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-11, 15-3) and capped the day with a four-set victory over Victor Valley (25-15, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15).

The Owls improve to 3-10 on the year with the wins, while the Vaqueros sit at 3-7 overall and the Rams are 3-4.

After finding itself trailing 2-0 in the match, Citrus turned things around in the third against Glendale. The Owls committed just five errors in the last three sets, boasting a .526 and .500 attack percentage in the fourth and fifth, respectively.

Faith Evaro led the Owls with 16 kills in the match, followed by Tara Biscan's seven kills on a .462 clip.

Vanessa Marquez dished out 23 assists and had six aces, while Mychaela Ortiz finished with five aces and had 19 digs.

In the second match, McKenna Cooper led the Owls with 13 kills and posted 13 digs for a double-double. Evaro added seven kills and 10 digs, while Ortiz led the defensive effort with 28 digs.

Marquez and Raegen Johnson shared setting duties with Marquez finishing with 23 assists and Johnson posting 17 assists.

The Owls are finally at home on Wednesday, hosting LA Mission for a 6 p.m. match.
