Citrus College gave No. 23-ranked Santa Monica College a run for its money Friday evening, but came up short in a five-set loss (25-17, 24-26, 25-20, 19-25, 15-10).
The Owls slip to 3-14 overall and 0-2 in Western State Conference action, while the Corsairs improve to 10-5 on the year and 2-0 in conference.
Faith Evaro led the Owls with 10 kills, while Julia Pitre finished with nine kills on a .400 attack percentage. Vanessa Marquez dished out 18 assists, while Raegen Johnson added 12 assists.
Defensively, Mychaela Ortiz had 19 digs, Johnson added 11 digs, and Evaro had nine digs. Evaro and Tara Biscan each posted four blocks for Citrus.
The Owls get a little breather before heading to Glendale College next Friday for a 6 p.m. contest.
