Owls Manage Marauders for First WSC Win

Citrus College snapped a six-match losing streak with a quick, three-set victory over Antelope Valley College Friday evening (25-10, 25-15, 25-17).

The Owls improve to 4-16 overall and 1-4 in Western State Conference action, while the Marauders slip to 3-9, 0-5 in conference play.

Julia Pitre led the Owls with nine kills, while Miah Soriano followed with seven kills and Faith Evaro chipped in six kills.

Defensively, the Owls held the Marauders to a negative hitting percentage for all three sets. Mychaela Ortiz led Citrus with 18 digs in the match, while Vanessa Marquez dished out 16 assists and Raegen Johnson added nine assists.

Citrus came out swinging and boasted a .367 attack percentage in the first set, committing just two errors on 30 total attempts to grab a quick 1-0 lead in the match.

The Marauders tried to contain the Owls, but Citrus powered through the next two sets to take the match 3-0.

Citrus remains at home as West LA comes to town on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m.
