Glendora, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- After losing to Santa Monica for just the second time in their last 13 contests earlier in the year, the Citrus College Women's Water Polo team exacted some revenge on Wednesday afternoon when they hosted the Corsairs in their WSC opener. After losing 13-8 at the Cuesta Tournament, the Owls turned the tables with a 13-7 victory of their own.

The Owls got it rolling from the outset. With the game knotted up at one goal apiece, Citrus rattled off three straight scores to take a 4-1 advantage after the first period. Citrus kept it going in the second frame outscoring Santa Monica 4-3, and took a 8-4 lead into the half.

In the second half, Citrus continued to apply the pressure. After the two teams matched each other with two goals each in the third, the Owls put the game away for good in the fourth with three more goals en route to the six point win.

Freshman Mandy Darafeev led the way for Citrus with five goals on seven attempts. Darefeev also drew a team high three kicks outs and handed out an assist. Freshman goalie Yvette Torres had her best game of the year, blocking a season high 14 shots, stopping 73.7% of the shots coming her way.

With the win, Citrus improves to 4-5 on the year and 1-0 in WSC play. The Owls will be on the road this weekend to take part in the San Diego Tournament, co-hosted by San Diego Mesa and Miramar Colleges. Citrus opens up the weekend with State #3 Cerritos College at 11:15 AM at Miramar College.
