Owls Suffer Pair of Tough Losses

San Luis Obispo, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team suffered a pair of tough losses on the second day of the Cuesta College Tournament. The Owls started off with a close 14-13 loss in the morning, before finishing the weekend with a 13-8 loss to WSC rival Santa Monica.

Saturday started with the Owls taking on UC Santa Barbara. The match was tight for the entirety of the contest as the score was tied 4-4 after the first quarter, before the Gauchos went up by a single goal in the second quarter and headed into the break up 8-7.

The two teams would match each other's goals in the third and fourth quarters as Citrus eventually fell by a single score. Freshman Candelaria Bacca had a team high three assists in the loss and three kick outs drawn. Freshman Mandy Darafeev scored five goals, while sophomore Meghan Turner also scored five goals to go along with four steals.

In the final match of the contest, the Owls fell in a tough game with fellow conference mate Santa Monica. Turner scored a pair of goals in the loss, while freshman Jenna Cook added two more.

With the two losses, Citrus falls to 1-3 on the year. The Owls will be back in the water next weekend at the Chaffey College Tournament. Citrus opens up the tournament with Riverside Community College at 9:00 AM on Friday.
