Freshman Lora Marquez-Solgado post six steals in Citrus' win against Miramar on Friday.

San Diego, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team opened up the first day of the San Diego Tournament hosted by San Diego Mesa and Miramar College's with a win and a loss. The Owls dropped the opening contest to State #3 Cerritos College 20-6, before rallying with a 16-9 win over the day's host Miramar College.

Citrus struggled against one of the top teams in the State in the opener falling to the Falcons for the second time this year. Sophomore Meghan Turner scored two goals for the Owls, while freshman Jenna Cook came up with three steals.

Despite the early setback the Owls didn't settle in the second game, rallying with that seven point victory. Turner along with freshman Mandy Darafeev pumped in four goals apiece, while freshmen Kendra New, Laura Marquez-Solgado, and Cook all scored twice each. Marquez-Solgado also stole a season high six balls in the win.

With the win and loss, Citrus moves to 5-6 on the year. The Owls will be taking part in day two of the tournament on Saturday with their opponents to be announced.
