Rancho Cucamonga, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team suffered a tough first game defeat on day one of the Chaffey College Tournament on Friday morning. The Owls picked themselves up off the ground and came back with a huge win in the afternoon over a conference foe.

Citrus started the day off with Cypress College, and the Owls fell to the Chargers 11-12. Freshman Mandy Dareafeev and Meghan Turner both pumped in five goals each.

In the second game, the Owls drew Ventura College, who has repeatedly been a thorn in the side of the Citrus for years. The Owls battled hard and came away with a 13-11 win over the Pirates.

Darafeev and Turner each put a trio of goals into the back of the net, while sophomore Kelsey Droegemueller scored four times. Freshman Candelaria Baca had five assists, and freshman Jenna Cook had five steals.

With the win and loss, the Owls move to 2-4 on the year. The Owls will be back in the pool on Saturday at Chaffey College.
