San Luis Obispo, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team started their 2012 season on Friday afternoon at the Cuesta College tournament. The day opened up with a 11-5 win over West Valley College before dropping a close afternoon contest to Diablo Valley College 8-12.

The opening contest would be close at the start, with the score standing at 4-3 in favor of Citrus headed into halftime. In the second half though, the Owls pulled away outscoring West Valley 7-2. Much of the scoring was spurred by the play of sophomore Meghan Turner. Turner scored a game high five goals and handed out four assists in the victory.

In the second contest, Turner again led Citrus, but this time in a losing effort. Turner scored three times, as did freshman Mandy Darefeev. Sophomore Kelsey Droegemueller drew three ejections in the loss.

Citrus will be back out in the pool tomorrow for day two of the Cuesta Tournament in San Luis Obispo. The Owls' first contest is set for a 10:10 AM start though it's not clear who the opponent will be as of yet.
