Ventura, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team was held to just two goals in the first three periods of Tuesday afternoon's Western State Conference contest at Ventura College. The Owls struggled from the field, converting just 15.6% of their shot attempts and turning the ball over 14 times in a 7-5 loss.

The Owls started off slow with just a single goal in each of the first two periods. Ventura meanwhile raced out to a 5-2 lead at the end of the first half. In the second half, the Owls were shutout in the third frame, while Ventura extended their lead to 6-2. Citrus would rally with three scores in the final eight minutes but it wasn't enough as the Pirates added one more, and the Owls fell 7-5.

In total the Owls had 51 possessions on the day, and converted just 9.8% of those chances into a score. Freshman Mandy Darafeev led the way with three of Citrus' five goals. Sophomore's Meghan Turner and Kelsey Droegemueller netted the other two.  Freshman Yvette Torres was solid in net for the Owls blocking 63.2% of the shots she faced and recording 12 saves, both well above her season average.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 6-8 overall and 1-1 in WSC games. The Owls will be back in the water this weekend as they participate in the Pasadena Bowl Tournament hosted by Pasadena City College. Citrus opened up the weekend by taking on Diablo Valley College at 11:20 AM.
