Owls Comeback Falls Short

Glendora, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team nearly crawled out of a six goal first quarter deficit, but their comeback fell just short. The Owls actually outscored LA Valley 9-7 over the final three quarters, but came up shy in a 14-10 loss.

The aforementioned first quarter, saw the Owls fall behind 7-1. LA Valley pounded the ball inside, and Citrus had no answer early for the Monarchs' 2M player. In the second quarter though, Citrus began to adjust, and outscored Valley 5-3 and went into the break trailing by four 10-6.

The Owls kept the momentum going in the third quarter outscoring Valley 4-1 to make it 10-11 headed into the final quarter. Citrus ran out of gas in the final frame though as they failed to get on the board, while the Monarchs added three more insurance goals.

Freshman Lora Marquez-Solgado led the way with three goals for the Owls. Freshman Mandy Darafeev and Sophomore Meghan Turner each added a pair of scores, while Turner also drew a team high three kickouts.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 8-11 on the year and 1-2 in WSC play. The Owls will try and get back on track this weekend as they host their own tournament. Citrus starts the tournament on Friday morning at 8:00 AM when they take on Rio Hondo at the Citrus College Aquatics Center.
