Six Lady Owls Named to All-WSC Team

Glendora, CA -- With the 2012 season having come to a close, the post-season awards are starting to roll in. The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team had six Lady Owls named to the All-Western State Conference team recently, two on the first team, two on the second team, and two to the honorable mention list.

Leading the honors were sophomore Meghan Turner and freshman Mandy Darafeev. After a two years absence from the pool deck, Turner returned to the Owls this year and didn't skip a beat as she was second on the team with 99 goals, was fourth on the team with 33 assists and led the Owls with 63 steals. Darafeev meanwhile posted a freshman campaign for the record books scoring a single season record 119 goals, added the third most assists with 37, and recorded an impressive 41 steals.

Freshmen Kendra New and Jenna Cook  both picked up 2nd team All-WSC nods as well. New pumped in 23 goals, recorded 25 assists, and stole 34 balls. Cook meanwhile added 24 goals, 29 assists, and was third on the team with 44 steals.

Rounding out the honors were freshmen Candelaria Baca and Lora Marquez-Solgado. Baca led the Owls with 52 assists and added 31 goals. Marquez-Solgado meanwhile scored 24 goals, added 22 assists, and was second on the team with 57 steals.
