San Diego, CA -- After starting out the 2013 San Diego Women's Water Polo Classic with three straight tough losses, the Owls rallied in their final contest of the weekend to post an 8-7 win over the tournament's host. Saturday started off with a close, close 12-9 loss to Southwester, but finished on a positive note with an 8-7 victory over San Diego Mesa College.

The final day started with the game against the Jaguars. The Owls staked themselves to a 3-2 lead after one, but Southwestern tied it up 6-6 at the half. In the third quarter the Jaguars went up 10-9, but pulled away in the fourth by outscoring Citrus 2-0 to close out the deal.

Sophomore Candelaria Baca led the Owls in the loss with a team high three goals and four steals. Freshman Kimberly Torres had a goal, and assist and a team high five steals. Freshman goalie Rose Takeuchi blocked 12 shots for the Owls in the process.

In the second game, the Owls went out on a good note. Citrus jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one quarter, and went into halftime up 4-1. In the second half, the Olympians tried to rally, outscoring Citrus 6-4. The Owls three point lead at the break, would be enough to withstand the comeback though as the Owls won by one.

Baca again paced Citrus with four goals. Torres had a pair of scores and two steals, while sophomore Kendra New added a sore, two assists, and a team high three steals. Takeuchi blocked a season high 18 shots in the win.

With the win and the loss, Citrus moves to 6-9 overall. The Owls will resume Western State Conference play this week when they travel to Santa Monica College to take on the Corsairs on Wednesday. The game is set for a 4:15 PM start.
