Owls Win Defensive Struggle

Santa Monica, CA -- Scoring was at a premium on Wednesday afternoon at Santa Monica College in a WSC tilt between the Owls and Corsairs. Citrus came up on the positive end, winning the defensive struggle 4-2.

Citrus scored the games opening goal, and the only goal scored in the opening eight minutes. The second quarter some more action though, with the Owls take a 3-1 lead into halftime. In the third, Santa Monica cut the Owls lead in half, but in the fourth the Citrus defense held the Corsairs scoreless and got an insurance score to boot to arrive at the 4-2 final score.

Sophomore Kendra New had three of Citrus' four scores, while sophomore Lora Marquez-Salgado had the other. Baca and Marquez-Salgado each added three steals, while freshman goalie Rose Takeuchi notched 13 saves posting a 86.7 save percentage on the day.

The Owls will take the weekend off before getting back out on the deck on Wednesday when they host Ventura College in WSC action. The game is set for a 4:15 PM start.
