Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo program kicked off the first day of its home hosted large tournament on Friday afternoon and had some strong results. Things were twice as nice for the Owls as they posted a pair of victories, 8-3 over El Camino College and 8-7 over San Diego Miramar College.

The day started off with the match-up with El Camino. The Warriors scored the first goal of the match, but the Owls quickly answered with a pair to go up 2-1 at the end of the first. Citrus extended their lead to 4-1 after two, and then 5-1 after three. In the fourth, the Owls added three more scores, while holding El Camino to just two, as Citrus cruised to the five point win.

Sophomore Kendra New and freshman Lauren Quintero each scored twice in the win. Quintero also added three steals while freshman goalie Rose Takeuchi stopped 14 shots.

Later in the day it was the meeting with the Jets. The two teams scored three times each in the first quarter, but the Owls began to put some distance between themselves and their opponent with a 2-0 second quarter to take a 5-3 lead into the break. The Owls would continue to hang on to the lead in the third quarter and led by as much as three points late in the fourth. Miramar tried to stage a furious rally, but the Owls held them at bay to grab the victory.

In the win, sophomore Candelaria Baca had a team high five goals. New had an assist and a pair of steals, and Takeuchi stopped another nine shots.

With the two wins, Citrus improves to 9-10 overall and is the winner of their pool. The Owls will move into the Championship Pool tomorrow and take on San Diego Mesa College at 1:50 PM and LA Valley College at 5:20 PM.
