Owls Cruise in WSC Opener

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo program opened up their 2014 Western State Conference slate with a big win on Wednesday afternoon. The Owls jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and cruised to a 19-4 victory over visiting Los Angeles Pierce College.

After opening up their lead to three scores in the first; Citrus really put their foot on the gas in the second and third quarters outscoring the Brahmas 12-2. In the fourth, the Owls slowed things down, but still held a 3-1 advantage as they went on to win by 15.

Sophomore Lauren Quintero had her best offensive game of the young season, converting four of her five shot attempts to lead the game in scoring. Freshmen Elaine Hodge, Mary Marie McCreary and sophomore Kimberly Torres all added three scores each. Torres also had a game high four assists, while sophomore Gabriela Biedebach had a game high four steals.

With the win, Citrus improves to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in WSC play. The Owls will be out of the water this weekend, but return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Ventura to take on the Pirates of Ventura College at 2:15 PM.
