Glendora & Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo program experienced both the good and the bad at this weekend's Mt. San Antonio College Tournament that they co-hosted. The Owls hung tough with some good teams, got a win, but also went just 1-3 over the two days of four games.

Things started off on Friday when they took on Fullerton College at the Citrus College Aquatics Center. The Owls hung tough with the Hornets, going into the break tied up at 4-4. In the third quarter, Fullerton began to pull away, outscoring Citrus 4-0, before making a 10-0 second half en route to the 14-4 win. In the loss, Citrus was led by sophomore goalie Rose Takeuchi who stopped 12 shots. Freshman Mary Marie McCreary scored twice, while sophomores Gabriela Biedebach and Lauren Quintero each had a pair of steals.

In the second game at Citrus, the Owls fared much better downing El Camino College 10-3. The Owls pitched a shutout over the first three quarters, going into the final frame up 8-0. Freshman Abby Sorensen led the scoring with three goals, to go along with a pair of assists. Biedebach added two goals, as did freshman Kathleen Gaytan.

On Saturday, Citrus moved down the road to Mt. San Antonio College, where they opened the day with Palomar College. The Owls and Comets traded blows on the day. Citrus took the lead after one 2-1, but Palomar stormed back with a 4-3 lead at the break. Citrus would pull even in the third 4-4, but ran out of gas in the fourth as they fell 6-5. Quintero bore the brunt of the offensive load scoring four goals on just five shots for the Owls. Takeuchi stopped 13 of the 19 shots she faced.

Later in the day, the Owls closed out the weekend against newcomer Santa Barbara City College. The Vaqueros made their presence felt early, scoring the first seven goals, and taking a commanding 8-3 lead after the first three quarters. Citrus would only score in the third quarter, before eventually falling 10-3. McCreary, and freshmen Danielle DeHerrera and Brittni Di Carlo all scored, while freshman Klarissa Gastelum-Zavala added a pair of steals.

With the win and three losses, Citrus falls to 4-6 on the year.
