Second Half Hole to Big for Owls

Second Half Hole to Big for Owls

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team played host to first place Cuesta College on Thursday afternoon. The Owls kept it close in the first half, but fell in to large of a hole to come out of in a 12-2 loss.

Things started off well enough for Citrus, with the Owls and Cougars each trading a pair of scores in the first quarter. Cuesta would pull ahead by a single goal with a score in the second, but Citrus trailed by just one score at the break. In the second half, the wheels came off as Cuesta scored four goals in the third, and then five more with the Citrus starters pulled in the fourth to secure the 10 point win.

In the loss, freshman Mary Marie McCreary scored both of Citrus' goals, while sophomore Kimberly Torres and freshman Abbey Sorensen each had an assist. Torres chipped in with three steals, while sophomore goalie Rose Takeuchi stopped 13 of the 20 shots she faced.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 9-12 on the year and 2-3 in WSC play.
