Mission Viejo, CA -- The 2015 Citrus College Women's Water Polo season finally got under way on Friday afternoon at the 2015 Saddleback Invitational. The Owls opened things up with a disappointing 13-6 loss to the weekend's host Saddleback College, but rallied with a 13-2 win over East Los Angeles College in the early evening, earning new head coach Meaghan Paschall her first career collegiate head coaching win.

In the opener against the Gauchos, Citrus stood toe to toe with Saddleback out of the gate with the score tied at 2-2 after one. The Owls though struggled over the next two periods, going from a 2-2 tie after one to a 3-9 deficit after three. Citrus would rally for three goals in the final frame, but would ultimately fall by seven in the opening tilt.

In the loss, Citrus was paced by sophomore Elaine Hodge who scored a team high three goals. Sophomore Brittni Di Carlo and freshman Jessica Carmody had a pair of assists each, while Carmody matched sophomore Abby Sorensen's team high three steals.

In the second game, Citrus jumped all over the Owls in the opening frame, scoring 10 goals in the first eight minutes of competition. Citrus never looked back, giving up just two goals to the Huskies over the final three quarters, en route to an 11 point victory.

Di Carlo would pace the Owls offensive effort in the second contest with a team high three goals. Sorensen, and sophomores Christina Tereszczuk and Mary Marie McCreary each added two. Hodge would hand out a pair of assists, while she and Carmody each had four steals.

With the win and the loss, Citrus moves to 1-1 on the season. The Owls will be back out on the deck in South Orange County tomorrow morning when they take on Southwestern College at 9:10 AM, followed by a tilt with Rio Hondo College at 1:50 PM.
