Owls Keep Pace in WSC With Win Over Allan Hancock

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo programs strong 2015 campaign continued on Wednesday afternoon when they hosted Allan Hancock College in Western State Conference action. The Owls kept pace in the WSC race with a 14-3 victory over the visiting Bulldogs.

The Owls opened up the game on a 5-0 run, getting back to back goals by sophomore Mary Marie McCreary, and goals from sophomore Klarissa Gastelum-Zavala, and freshmen Rosalia Aranda and Jessica Carmody. Hancock finally broke up the Citrus run with a score with 4:35 to go, but a goal by sophomore Elaine Hodge with 2:29 to go made it 6-1 after a quarter of play.

In the second, Citrus kept it going, outscoring the Bulldogs 4-0 thanks to goals by sophomore Danielle DeHerrera, McCreary, freshman Gabriella Galbraith, and another by Deherrera with 2:24 left in the second. Citrus would score twice more in the third on strikes from Aranda and Carmody, before giving up a goal in the closing minutes of the third. The Owls closed out the contest in th fourth with another goal by Aranda and Hodge to finish with the 11 point win.

In the win McCreary, DeHerrera, Aranda, Hodge, and Carmody all each had a pair of goals. McCreary drew a team high three exclusions, while Galbraith had one of her best statistical games of the season with a goal, five assists, and three steals.

With the win, Citrus improves to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in WSC play. The Owls will take a break from tournament action this weekend, and resume conference play next Wednesday at Santa Monica College for a 4:15 PM start.
