San Luis Obispo, CA - With the #3 seed in the upcoming Western State Conference Championships on the line on Wednesday afternoon, the Citrus College Women's Water Polo team came up just short against Cuesta College. The Owls trailed by a goal after two quarters of play, but were outscored by three over the final 16 minutes of competition in a 11-7 loss.

Both offenses got off to a slow start with Citrus scoring a single goal and Cuesta two in the first. The pace picked up in the second with each team scoring a trio of goals. In the third, Citrus' turnover woes helped put the Owls in a bigger hole as the Cougars outscored them 3-1. Citrus put up a fight in the fourth, but came up another goal shy 3-2.

In the loss, sophomore Mary Marie McCreary scored a team high three goals. Freshman Jessica Carmody paced Citrus with four steals.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 18-9 overall and 4-3 in WSC play. The Owls won't be back in action until next Thursday when they take on Ventura College in the opening round of the 2015 WSC Championships. The time for the game is to be announced.
