Valley Glen, CA - The winningest season in Citrus College Women's Water Polo program history came to a close on Friday afternoon at the 2015 Western State Conference Championships. While the Owls finished in a somewhat disappointing fifth place, they still put together the most successful season win wise in program history, and finished the season with a win.

The final day of the season began in the semi-finals when they squared off with #5 seed Ventura College. Citrus ran out to an early 2-1 lead after the first quarter, but Ventura kept pace in the second with a 2-2 period that made the score 4-3 in favor of the Owls at halftime. In the third, Ventura came back and tied things up sending the game in the final eight minutes with the score knotted up at 5-5. Citrus ran out of gas in the fourth as the Pirates outscored the Owls 3-1 for an 8-6 win.

In the loss, Citrus was led by sophomore Mary Marie McCreary who scored four of Citrus' six goals. Sophomore Abbey Sorensen had a pair of assists, and sophomore Daniel DeHerrera led the way with five steals. Freshman Nicole Parson rounded out the superlatives with eight saves.

The loss would drop the Owls to the fifth-sixth place game where Citrus took on the fledgling Allan Hancock program. Citrus jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked book outscoring the Bulldogs in all four quarters en route to a 13-6 win.

Scoring was spread out evenly in the final contest as McCreary, Sorensen, and freshman Jessica Carmody all had a team high two goals each. Sophomore Elaine Hodge and freshman Sabrina Fregoso each added two assists as did Sorensen, while Carmody recorded four steals. Freshman Jenna Elder rounded out the day with eight blocks.

With the win and the loss, Citrus' 2015 season comes to an end with a 19-10 record.
