Riverside, CA – After starting the 2016 season 3-1, the Owls hit a tough slate on Friday when they opened up the Riverside Tournament with arguably the best two teams in maybe the State in Riverside City College and Golden West College. The Owls went 0-2 falling to the Tigers 1-12 and the Rustlers 5-14.

In the opener against RCC, the Owls struggled to get good clean looks at the cage, getting off 17 total shots, but only five of those 17 were on the cage and only one got past the Tigers' goalie. Freshman Lindsay Powell scored Citrus' only goal, and it came in the middle of the fourth quarter and unassisted.

Citrus fared better against Golden West, but couldn't really find the pace and momentum they wanted until it was too late. The Owls actually scored the first goal of the contest, when freshman Hunter Olivier ripped the cords on a pass from freshman Chloe Barrocas. The Rustlers would go on a 9-0 run though over the remaining minutes of the first quarter, the entire second quarter, and the opening minutes of the third.

The Owls didn't break up the run until Barrocas scored with 5:46 to go in the third. In the fourth, Citrus would get three out of the seven scores, getting a goal from Powell and a pair of strikes from Olivier.

With the two losses, Citrus drops to 3-3 on the year. The Owls will be back at Riverside on Saturday when they take on an always tough Long Beach squad first before closing out against conference mate Allan Hancock College.
