Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team made their home debut on Friday afternoon when they helped co-host the 20th Annual Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo Classic. The Owls won big and small on the day, defeating Rio Hondo College 15-9 and Orange Coast College 10-9 on the day.

 In the opener against the Roadrunners, Citrus started the game with an 8-0 first quarter before cruising to the six point victory. The Owls had six different players score goals in the first and never looked back. Freshmen Hunter Olivier and Johana Chazaro Coates each scored a trio of goals, while sophomore Sabrina Fregoso handed out four assists. Sophomore goalie Delaney Moller stopped seven of the nine shots she faced through the first half in the big win for Citrus.

In the second game of the day, offense didn't came as easy. Citrus took a 3-1 lead after one thanks to goals by freshmen Brooke Padilla and Chloe Barrocas. The two teams would each trade a pair of goals in the second, but the Pirates managed a 2-1 third quarter to head into the fourth trailing by a single score 5-6.

Orange Coast would tie the game up in the fourth quarter just 36 seconds into the period, but the Owls scored two straight via goals by sophomore Alyssa Gonzalez and freshman Hunter Olivier to jump back out in front 8-6. The Pirates would rally with two more scores to tie the game back up at eight goals each with 3:29 to go and 9-9 with 1:34 to go in the game. Freshman Chloe Barrocas would score the game winner with 1:01 to go, getting a pass from Olivier to sore the final goal of the contest.

Barrocas would be the hero for the Owls scoring half of Citrus' 10 goals. Moller meanwhile stopped 12 of the 21 shots she faced and added two more steals. Gonzales drew a pair of exclusions and Olivier was the only other Owl with more than one goal with two to go along with two assists.

The Owls will be back on their home deck on Saturday afternoon when they close out the Mt. SAC Classic with Palomar and El Camino Colleges.   ​
