Santa Monica & Valley Glen, CA - The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team covered a total of 93.9 miles on Wednesday afternoon as they closed out their regular season schedule with a 12:30 PM tilt at Santa Monica College and then a 3:30 PM showdown with Los Angeles Valley College. The double-dip ended with double victories for the Owls 18-2 and 15-14.

In the opener with Santa Monica the Owls jumped all over the Corsairs scoring six goals in the first and five more in the second before Santa Monica scored their first goal with 1:01 left in the first half. The Owls took their foot off the gas in the third quarter scoring just once, but closed out the fourth with a 6-1 period to end up with a 16 goal margin. Freshman Chloe Barrocas scored a game high four goals in the win, while freshman Samantha Sanchez-Merino added three scores and a pair of assists.

In the second game, things were a little tighter, but they weren't early when Citrus ran out to a 4-1 advantage after Barrocas connected on three early goals. After the first Citrus led 4-2, but Valley turned the tables on the Owls in the second quarter as they outscored Citrus 6-3, taking a 8-7 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Citrus would briefly regain the lead on a score by freshman Lindsay Powell tied the game up at nine and a goal by freshman Brooke Padilla with 3:09 left in the quarter would make it 10-9. The Monarchs would rally over the final 2:03 though to go back on top 11-10 as the match headed into the fourth and final frame.

Citrus would go down a full three scores as LA Valley scored the quarters first two goals. The Owls didn't panic though and went on a 5-0 run, getting a goal from Barrocas, two from Padilla (the second of which tied the game up at 13-13), while freshman Hunter Olivier put the game away with a pair of 6-on-5 goals to give the Owls a 15-13 advantage. The Monarchs would score once more with 1:38 to go, but Citrus didn't give up another goal as they secured the victory. Barrocas led the way with five goals in the win. Padilla and Olivier both added four, while Barrocas led the way with four steals.

With the two wins, Citrus moves to 21-9 overall and 4-3 in WSC play. The Owls will have to wait for their seed in the 2016 Western State Conference Championship Tournament after the rest of the conference finishes their conference games this weekend. The Owls will be slotted between #3 and #5, and play their first round match-up on Thursday November 3rd, 2016 at Cuesta College at either 8:30 AM or 11:00 AM.
