Huntington Beach, CA - It took almost two entire games for Citrus College opening round contest in the 2016 Southern California Regionals to be decided. The Owls and Mt. San Antonio College played to a 6-6 tie at the end of regulation and a 7-7 tie at the end of the first mandated two overtimes. It took two more plus a little extra before a winner could be declared as the Mounties scored in the golden goal in the fifth overtime to upend Citrus by a final of 8-7.

Freshman Brooke Padilla and Chloe Barrocas helped get the Owls off to the start they wanted. Padilla scored the game's opening goal 2:11 in, and Barrocas added two more before the midway point as the Owls jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. The Owls experienced the exact opposite in the second quarter, as the Mounties flipped the tables and scored three goals, while shutting out the Owls making the game tied up at three goals apiece at halftime.

Mt. SAC would briefly take the lead 4-3 after scoring the opening second half goal, but goals by freshman Hunter Olivier and Barrocas, both on 6-on-5 opportunities put Citrus back in front 5-4. The Mounties would rally with two more goals in the fourth to go back on top 6-5, but Olivier would help send the game into the first round of overtime with her goal with 1:57 to play.

In the first overtime, Citrus couldn't find the back of the net, while Mt. SAC scored with 2:02 remaining. The Owls would lock down the Mounties over the next five minutes of action, while getting a goal by freshman Johana Chazaro Cortes with 1:47 left in the second overtime to force the next set of overtimes. In the third and fourth overtimes, neither team could break through. Finally in the fifth overtime, Mt. SAC did just that, ending the Owls' season.

In the loss, Barrocas would finish with a team high three scores, to go along with eight steals, and four exclusions drawn. Olivier would add two, to go along with six steals. With the loss, Citrus' most successful season in nearly two decades, ends with a 23-11 record.
