Women’s Water Polo Has Eight Earn All-Conference Honors

Glendora, CA - Fresh off it's most successful season in well over a decade, the Citrus College Women's Water Polo team had eight players earn All-Western State Conference awards. Three players earned 1st team nods, while two were named to the 2nd team, and another three Honorable Mention honorees.

Leading the pack was freshman driver Hunter Olivier (La Quinta HS). Olivier started all 34 games for the Owls, scoring a team high 86 goals, which was 6th most in the WSC and the 7th most goals scored in a single season by an individual player in Citrus history. Olivier also proved a defensive force, recording 96 steals, second in the WSC and the also the second most in program history. Olivier topped it all off with 46 assists.  

Joining Olivier on the first team was fellow freshman phenom and utility player Chloe Barrocas (Monrovia HS). Barrocas scored 60 goals, led the team in exclusions drawn at 60, and handed out a team leading 54 assists. Her 54 assists on the year ranked 3rd in the WSC and second all-time in Citrus history. Barrocas also led the team in steals with 101 on the season, which led the WSC, was 3rd in the entire State, and was a new single season program record.

Rounding out the 1st team selections was freshman driver Alyssa Gonzalez (Hillcrest HS). Gonzalez was the only other Owl to start all 34 games for Citrus College in 2016. Gonzalez was consistent across the board for the Owls, scoring 42 goals, handing out 32 assists, and notching 44 steals. Gonzalez also drew 19 exclusions and was second on the team with six field blocks.

Grabbing second team spots were freshmen Lindsay Powell (Vivian Webb School) and Johana Chazaro Cortes (Upland HS). Powell started in all 32 games in which she appeared, scoring 50 goals, recording 31 assists, drawing 26 exclusions, and swiping 44 steals. Chazaro-Cortes meanwhile appeared in all 34 games, with eight starts, and was usually Head Coach Jennifer Spalding's first option off the bench. She scored 31 times, was responsible for 26 assists, and had 29 steals.

Wrapping up the All-Conference honors were sophomores Delaney Moller (Roosevelt HS), Gabriella Galbraith (Los Osos HS), and freshman Brooke Padilla (Los Osos HS). Moller, the Owls starting goalie for much of the year, was 21-11 in the cage, starting all 32 contests in which she appeared. Moller stopped 251 shots on the year and posted a 52% save percentage. Moller had 35 steals and helped lead multiple fast-breaks adding 10 assists to her resume.

Galbraith made 30 appearances throughout the year, starting in 27 of those contests. Galbraith scored 15 times, gave out 27 assists, and notched 36 steals. Padilla played in 33 contest this past year, starting all 33 games. Padilla scored 34 goals, notched 29 steals, had 26 assists, and drew 23 exclusions.
