The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team traveled to Stockton, CA last Friday to compete in the San Joaquin Delta College Tournament after playing games on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Game one of the four-game tournament schedule for the Owls came against the hosting San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs. The Owls kept the game close as the score was tied 5-5 after the second quarter. San Joaquin Delta pulled away in the third quarter by scoring five goals and the Owls could not claw back, losing 14-8. Citrus was led by Kori Cunningham and Marieona Reedy who each scored two goals. Maryeon Reedy had three assists and added two steals. Natalie Abril recorded 12 saves in the game.
Game two was a matchup against Fresno City College in which the Owls dominated, winning 14-3. Kori Cunningham led the way with five goals, two assists, six steals and two exclusions drawn. Marieona Reedy scored three goals and assisted on two goals while Gabi Terry scored two goals in the win. Goalies Natalie Abril and Katelyn Wright each recorded three saves.
On Saturday morning the Owls matched up with the Sierra College Wolverines for their third game of the tournament. Sierra College jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter as Citrus ended up losing the game 12-5. Kori Cunningham scored two goals while Ryan Price, Trinity Hulet and Marieona Reedy all scored one goal.
Game four, the last of the Delta Tournament, marked the sixth game that Citrus played in their four-day, Wednesday-Saturday stretch. The Owls battled against Modesto Junior College in the first two quarters but pulled away in the third quarter by scoring seven goals to notch a 13-6 win to end a busy week. Kori Cunningham scored seven goals and added five steals while Ryan Price scored three goals and had one steal. Goalie Natalie Abril recorded eight saves in the win.
Overall Cirtus College went 2-2 at the San Joaquin Delta College Tournament to bring their season record to 6-11.
The Owls will return home as they host Santa Monica City College tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9th at 4:30 p.m.
