Los Angeles, CA (Cross Country) -- Citrus College sophomore Lovella Perea and freshman Julia Galvez led the Owls to a 9th place finish at this weekend's Western State Conference Preview. Perea was the top Owl runner on the day, finishing 45th overall while Galvez was 54th.

It was the first time that someone other than freshman Marilyn Meza led the Owls across the finish line in 2012. Perez, the Owls' top sophomore in 2012, paced the Owls with a 7:47 mile finishing the 5K course in 24:13. Galvez meanwhile kept up a 7:52 mile pace and was done in a time of 24:29. Meza wouldn't finish too far behind those two as she was 59th place with a time of 24:39.

On the men's side, the Owls finished 10th out of the 10 competing teams. Freshman Wesley Ewart was the leader on the day with a 69th place finish with a time of 26:20. Freshmen Gregory Castro and Michael Tejada finished five spots behind Ewart in 74th and 75th place respectively. Castro clocked a time of 27:09, while Tejada finished with a time of 27:18.

The Owls will be back out running on Friday when they take part in the Mt. SAC Invite. The First race is set for a 10:00 AM start.
