Owls Continue to Show Promise at Foothill Invite

Ontario, CA -- The Citrus College Cross Country team took back to the racing course this past weekend as they participated in the Foothill Invitational. The Owls continued to show promise as both the men's and women's teams finished in sixth place, and both had an individual finish in the Top 6.

On the women's side it was freshman Alexandra Contreras who lead the pack, finishing third overall with an impressive time of 19:24 on the 5K course. Sophomore Julia Galvez had her best showing of the year with a 21st overall finish, and time of 20:38. Hot on Galvez's heels was freshman Jackeline Perez who posted a time of 20:52 and 24th place finish. Sophomore Marilyn Meza (21:35 | 35th), and freshmen Krystalynn Bazan (22:19 | 46th) and Jessica McMillen (22:43 | 49th) rounded out the Owls top six on the day.

On the men's side, freshman Diego Lopez had his second straight impressive race, finishing 6th overall in a time of 21:17. Freshman Juan Cruz came in 36th overall with a time of 23:09 and fellow frosh Jerrick Basallo was just behind him in 43rd place and a time of 23:20. Sophomore Michael Tejada (24:08 | 62nd), along with freshmen Jesse Sandoval (24:26 | 66th) and Salvador Marquez (24:29 | 67th) all were close behind and finished out the top six racers on the day.

Citrus will take the next week off before coming back and participating in their first official Western State Conference race of the year, the WSC Preview. The meet is scheduled for a 3:30 PM start at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura, CA on Friday October 4th.
