Santa Barbara, CA -- The Citrus College Cross Country team kept things on track this past weekend as they participated in the Santa Barbara City College Cross Country Invitational. The Owls men finished 6th out of 13 competing teams, while the Owl women finished 4th out of the 10 schools present.

On the men's side the top of the order didn't change much as freshman Daniel Hernandez-Cabrera crossed the finish line first in 6th place overall with a time of 22:17.60. Freshman Alexander Evangelista was the second Owl across 35th place (23:36.81) and was followed very closely by sophomore Diego Lopez (23:42.24). Sophomore Kelley Collins and freshman Andrew Ballin rounded out the top five efforts for Citrus, finishing in 49th (23:53.12) and 56th (24:07.14) places respectively. As a team, the Owls earned 178 points, and posted a team total time of 1:57:36.92. Citrus' average race time was 23:31.39.

For the women, freshman Antonella Curinga once again led the pack, finishing in 12th place overall with a time of 21:08.46. Freshman Janet Meza-Avila and sophomore Jessica McMillen were hot on her heels with a 21st (22:09.45) and 22nd (22:10.48) place showing respectively. Freshman Paige Petersen cracked the Citrus Top 5 for the first time this year with a 41st place (23:15.68) finish, while freshman Yaiza Crawford continued her strong season with a 42nd place (23:25.60) showing. The Owls just nipped fifth place East Los Angeles College (129 points) with 126 points on the day. Citrus posted a total team time of 1:52.09.67 and averaged 22:25.94 on the day.

With the end of this weekend's race came the conclusion of the regular season for the Owls. Citrus will start post-conference competition in two weeks, starting with the Western State Conference Championships at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura on Friday October 24th, starting at 3:30 PM.
