San Luis Obispo, CA -- The Citrus College Cross Country program got their 2015 off to, literally a fast start on Friday afternoon at the 2015 Tour de Cuesta. The Owl Women finished in first place as a team, while the men placed second.

On the women's side, sophomore Atonella Curinga paced all racers on the course, edging Cuesta's Aly Voth by 0.14 seconds to claim first place overall. Sophomore Janet Meza-Avila came in third (21:42.34), while sophomore Lezly Morales was fifth (22:11.35). Sophomore Nataly Meza-Avila was 9th overall (22:31.37), while sophomore Jacqueline Alcala (13th Place | 23:02.34), sophomore Andrea Flores (16th Place | 23:46.40), and sophomore Cynthia Sanchez (22nd Place | 25:11.44) rounded out the scoring effort for Citrus. As a team the Owl totaled 31 points, four points ahead of the days host Cuesta College.

For the men, Daniel Hernandez-Cabrera picked up where his 2014 season left, finishing in second place with a time of 22:53.78. Sophomore Emmanuel Mercado was the second Owl in the chute, with an 11th place finish and a time of 23:37.58. Citrus picked up three of the next five spots, as sophomore Andres Aparicio was 13th (23:59.32), sophomore Juan Cruz 15th (24:09.89), and freshman Julian Ramirez 16th (24:13.17). Sophomore Efren Alcala Jr. (24:58.31) and freshman Adrian Maciel (25:35.15) rounded out the scoring runs with a 26th place and 29th place finish respectively. As a team Citrus picked up 55 points, 18 behind first place Cuesta and 11 ahead of third place Santa Barbara City College.

Citrus will take this coming weekend off before participating in the Southern California Preview on Friday Septmber 18th. The Owls will see how they stack up against the rest of the best in SoCal at Tecolote Shores in Mission Bay Park in San Diego. First race is set for 11:00 AM.
