Six Lady Owls Named to All-WSC Team

Glendora, CA -- With the 2012 season having come to a close, the post-season awards are starting to roll in. The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team had six Lady Owls named to the All-Western State Conference team recently, two on the first team, two on the second team, and two to the honorable mention list.

Glendora, CA -- Citrus College Head Women’s Water Polo and Women’s Swimming Coach Andrew Silva was recently named the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program Regional Goalkeeper Coach. In that position, Silva will be responsible for evaluating and training goalies from across the country who are a part of the USA Water Polo’s national development program.

Glendora, CA -- Citrus College Aquatics Center Coordinator and Head Women’s Swim Coach Andrew Silva will helm the Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team effective immediately. Silva takes over the program as the program’s head coach of the last two seasons Crystal Rivas will be leaving the program.

Owls Season Ends With Loss in Third Place Game

Ventura, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team’s 2012 season came to a close on Saturday afternoon at the 2012 Western State Conference Championship Tournament. Citrus, the #5 seed, took on the #3 seed in the third place game and lost 15-8.

Women’s Water Polo Falls in Championship Semi-Final

Ventura, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team opened up the 2012 Western State Conference Championship Tournament with a win in the play-in round, but fell later in the day in the semi-final. The Owls knocked off the #4 seed Cuesta College in the opening round 15-13 before falling to #1 seed Los Angeles Pierce College 16-8 in the semi-finals.

Shorthanded Owls Suffer Big Loss at Cuesta

San Luis Obispo, CA -- With three starters sidelined due to injury, the Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team suffered a big loss on Wednesday afternoon, their worst of the conference schedule. The undermanned Owls fell 20-6.

Long Beach, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team won their pool at the Battle at the Beach Tournament this weekend. After taking both games on Friday, the Owls finished up the sweep on Saturday, and in the process freshman Mandy Darafeev broke the single season program record for goals.

Pair of Wins Get Owls Back to .500

Cypress, CA (Women’s Water Polo) -- A pair of wins on Friday afternoon, put the Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team back at .500 for the first time since late September. The Owls recorded wins over Southwestern, 16-13, and Rio Hondo, 17-15, to get back to even mark in the win and loss column.

Glendora, CA (Women’s Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team turned the ball over 22 times, too much for them to overcome when they hosted LA Pierce College in a WSC meeting on Wednesday night. Despite their best efforts, the turnovers doomed the Owls in a 15-12 loss.

Glendora, CA (Women’s Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team wrapped up their 2012 Citrus College Tournament with a win and a loss on Saturday afternoon. Citrus opened up with a 13-10 win over Santa Ana, before falling in a close contest 9-7 to El Camino.

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team had a strong start to their home hosted tournament on Friday with a pair of wins. The Owls got things rolling with a 19-15 win over Rio Hondo College and closed it out later in the afternoon with a 12-8 victory over San Diego Mesa College.

Glendora, CA (Women’s Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team nearly crawled out of a six goal first quarter deficit, but their comeback fell just short. The Owls actually outscored LA Valley 9-7 over the final three quarters, but came up shy in a 14-10 loss.

Pasadena, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team had a double dip in the Pasadena Bowl Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The day turned out great for the Owls as they pounded out a pair of wins, 15-10 against Southwestern and 8-7 against the tournament’s host Pasadena.

Women's Water Polo Loses Two

Pasadena, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- It was a tough day for the Citrus College Women's Water Polo team in the opener of the 12th Annual Pasadena Bowl Tournament hosted by Pasadena City College. The Owls dropped both of their two contests, losing to Diablo Valley College 17-7 and then Orange Coast College 14-4.

Ventura, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team was held to just two goals in the first three periods of Tuesday afternoon's Western State Conference contest at Ventura College. The Owls struggled from the field, converting just 15.6% of their shot attempts and turning the ball over 14 times in a 7-5 loss.

San Diego, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- For the second straight day, the Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team was forced into a split at the San Diego Tournament. The Owls opened up with a strong 10-7 win over Chaffey College, but fell in the finale to Grossmont College 14-7.
