Four Women’s Water Polo Players Earn All-Conference Awards

Glendora, CA -- Four Citrus College Women’s Water Polo athletes were awarded post-season conference honors recently. Sophomore goalie Rose Takeuchi paced the pack with a 1st team nod, while sophomore Lauren Quintero and freshman Danielle DeHerrera were both named 2nd team awardees. Sophomore Kimberly Torres rounded out the honors with an Honorable Mention nod.

Owls Season Ends in 5th Place at WSC Championships

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program closed out their 2014 campaign this past weekend with a strong showing at the 2014 Western State Conference Championships. The Owls battled to the end with #4 Los Angeles Valley College in the quarterfinals before settling for a victory over #6 Los Angeles Pierce College in the 5th Place game.

Stopped in the Middle

Santa Barbara, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team travelled to Santa Barbara and San Marcos High School to take on Santa Barbara City College in their regular season finale last Wednesday. The Owls were stopped shy of their upset bid by their play in the middle of the game, in what was an 11-5 loss for Citrus.

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team played host to first place Cuesta College on Thursday afternoon. The Owls kept it close in the first half, but fell in to large of a hole to come out of in a 12-2 loss.

Cypress & Long Beach, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program hit the road this weekend for their final regular season tournament, the Battle at the Beach hosted by Long Beach City College and Cypress College. It was a 2-2 weekend for the Owls as they earned wins against Pasadena City College and Southwestern College, but dropped a pair of Sierra College and Cypress College.

Sophomore goalie Rose Takeuchi broke the career saves record on Friday afternoon, and helped lead the Owls to a 4-0 weekend at their home hosted tournament.

Glendora, CA -- It was a banner weekend for the Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program as they hosted their annual Citrus College Women’s Water Polo Tournament. Not only did the Owls go 4-0, but history was made as sophomore goalie Rose Takeuchi broke the career record for most blocks.

Valley Glen, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program hit the road on Wednesday afternoon for a key middle of the conference season WSC contest at LA Valley College. The Owls were sent home with a tough loss, as their offense was stymied in a 9-1 loss.

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program put together their first shutout of an opponent on Wednesday afternoon in at least eight seasons. The Owls jumped out to an early lead and never looked by, while shutting down visiting Santa Monica College in a 17-0 victory.

Sophomore goalie Rose Takeuchi stopped 61 shots over four games for the Owls this past weekend at the San Diego Classic, including a program record 25 in a loss to San Diego Miramar.

San Diego, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program headed South this weekend to take part in the 17th Annual San Diego Women’s Water Polo Classic co-hosted by San Diego Miramar College and San Diego Mesa College. The Owls hit a rough patch while there going 0-4 and losing a pair of really tight contests.

Freshman Missy McCreary had four goals, an assist, two steals, and a pair of kick-outs drawn over four games for the Owls during the Mt. SAC Tournament.
The Good and The Bad

Glendora & Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program experienced both the good and the bad at this weekend’s Mt. San Antonio College Tournament that they co-hosted. The Owls hung tough with some good teams, got a win, but also went just 1-3 over the two days of four games.

Bottled Up

Ventura, CA — The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team went on the road for the first time in Western State Conference play on Wednesday afternoon. The Owls travelled up the coast to take on Ventura College, and had their offense bottled up in an 8-2 loss to the host Pirates.

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program opened up their 2014 Western State Conference slate with a big win on Wednesday afternoon. The Owls jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and cruised to a 19-4 victory over visiting Los Angeles Pierce College.

Mission Viejo, CA —The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team finished up their first weekend of competition on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 day. The Owls opened the day with a 12-6 loss to their weekend’s host before finishing on a high note with a 7-2 win over East Los Angeles College.

Mission Viejo, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program’s 2014 season got on its way on Friday afternoon when they opened things up at the Saddleback Invitational. The Owls’ day was split down the middle as they started with a tough 4-7 loss to Grossmont College, before rallying with a 12-2 win over Rio Hondo to close out the evening.

Goalie Rose Takeuchi, who was a 1st team All-WSC selection as a freshman, is one of Citrus' top returners in 2014.
Preparation

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Water Polo program kicks-off their 2014 season this weekend down in Mission Viejo at the Saddleback Invitational. The Owls will be looking to build on Silva’s first season at the helm of Citrus in 2013, where they showed signs of potential. Citrus will do so, by striving to lean on the preparation that has taken place over the last several months.
